Rostropovich Popper Dance of the Elves
Heard it? OK, what are the obvious differences between "Slava" and me?
1. He is a boy. I am a girl.
2. I don't play my cello on a platform.
3. I only have an accompanist on Tuesdays. Today is Friday. And my accompanist does not share my last name. And she does not have a page-turner who also shares a last name.
And that's it! That was a fun game, wasn't it?
Other odds & ends: Our neighbor jackhammered who-knows-what from 9:00 am till past 9:00 pm (with floodlights) yesterday. And started up again at 6:45 this morning.
Tomorrow morning is our cycling Saturday Pancake Ride. I like to go, even though I am often the only female, and most of the talk is not female-oriented. Sometimes I sip my coffee and stare into space, cross-eyed, while "the guys" talk about drops and lactate thresholds and pacelines. Some days it would be fun to talk about stitching in the ditch, or cooking with fenugreek, or My Gosh, did you watch the Real Housewives Reunion last night?!
Wow. Am I shallow?
This weekend holds a million choices of household/barnhold/landscape/animal world duties from which to choose for our pre-autumnal entertainment. I think we get so caught up in Yay! It'sSpringAndWeCanHaveFun, only to fall too soon into OmigoodnessIt'sSummerAndTooHotTooWindy, and then we find ourselves here: in Perfect Land: not too hot, not too cold...Juuuuuust right. And then we go ride bikes, he and I.
And then we sit in the Adirondacks (the chairs, not the mountains) under the trees with our friends and disregard the tasks at hand.
Maybe this will be the year/month/weekend that we face reality and responsibility, and actually:
- Match up those nasty storm windows to their correct mates.
- Get that piano out of Socksie's barn stall.
- Finish the bike barn.
- Sell that basketball thing. (Hoop?)
- Sell that Jeep.
- Purge the basement of all that is...not Shaker-Simple?
- Purge the house of all that is... not Shaker-Simple?
Air and Simple Gifts - John Williams
(You might well recognize it from President Obama's swearing in: Yo Yo Ma, Anthony McGill, Gabriela Montera, and Itzak Perlman.)
Happy weekending!

My things have all been Shaker-Simplified, so please don't feel the need to chuck anything of mine!
I don't see the barn walls on that list... when will we finish those? Fall break?
After the pancake ride, I went out and dug out 4" underneath the bottom 2x4. At that point I was SOAKING in this humidity, and we all know how sweat just makes my skin crawl. So I came in and showered and donned my bright pink moo-moo for the rest of the day.
When is Fall Break, anyway?
Um, one more difference, you don't have those ugly glasses.
And, Shaker-Simple? Is that even possible without being Shaker? Or Swedish?
Can totally relate to your neighbor story... Mine decides to start mowing around 9pm or whenever we are trying to have an outdoor dinner party.
